Consumer Directed Personal Assistance or CDPAP is a caregiving program that is adapted by Medicaid to pay a family member or that close to the family, except the spouse to take care of their own adult sibling, parent, or any adult family member that needs home care.
This option will allow the member to choose their assistant with whom they knew for years and where they are confident to rely their support and aid in their needs, and with the thought that such aid that cares for them, all the same, are receiving a respective pay for their service.
Anyone can qualify for the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance program as long as the consumer is a verified member of Medicaid and is proven to have the need for home care services, and with it there is no additional cost for availing the program as all the salary and benefits of the personal assistant is being paid for by a fiscal intermediary.
To be a Consumer Directed Personal Assistance personal assistant to the consumer one must not be the consumer’s spouse, not the consumer’s designated representative, and not the parent of a disabled child under 21 years old.
